The Sea Winds Trio performs a program of solo, duo and trio works for woodwinds evocative of life by the ocean. The Trio is comprised of Susan Greenberg, flutist with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Helen Goode-Castro, clarinetist with LACO, and Carolyn Beck, principal bassoonist with the Redlands and San Bernardino Symphonies. Included on the program; Scott Joplin gives a taste of a playful party of the 1920s, a tradional Cuban melody by jazz saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera evokes the pleasures of dancing and island life, and works by local composers Larry Frank (Los Angeles), Adrienne Albert (Santa Monica) and Deon Nielsen Price (Culver City), depict the scenic pleasures of living near the beach. This concert is presented in cooperation with the Los Angeles Chapters of Mu Phi Epsilon and The National Association of Composers/USA.

The Easy Winners: A Ragtime Two Step S. Joplin
Flutist Susan Greenberg enjoys a versatile career as soloist, chamber musician, symphony player, and recording artist. The Los Angeles Times describes her playing as "brilliant," "elegant" and "supple." As a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, she has been a frequent soloist on both flute and piccolo, recently playing concertos written for her by the composers Gernot Wolfgang and Bruce Broughton. Ms. Greenberg has also appeared as guest soloist with the San Francisco, Oakland Symphonies, Napa Valley, and Santa Monica Symphonies, and has performed with the L.A. Philharmonic, L.A. Opera, New York City Opera, American Ballet Theater, Joffrey Ballet, as well as at the Casals, Ojai and Martha's Vineyard Music Festivals. She is an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University and has alto taught at California Institute of the Arts and Occidental College. Ms. Greenberg is the Co-Artistic Director of Chamber Music Palisades, now celebrating its thirteenth season. Ms. Greenberg has recorded over 500 motion pictures and is the flutist for The Simpsons television show.
Clarinetist Helen Goode-Castro freelances with the L.A. Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Mozart Camerata, California Philharmonic, Pasadena Pops Orchestra and Long Beach Symphony. She recently recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. Ms. Goode-Castro is currently on the Clarinet faculty at California State University Long Beach and Cal State University Los Angeles. She also teaches chamber music at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. She graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music and continued her studies at the Royal College of Music, UCLA, and USC.
Bassoonist Carolyn Beck is Principal Bassoonist with the Redlands Symphony and the San Bernardino Symphony, and performs with many other concert and studio recording orchestras in the Los Angeles area including the Glendale and New West Symphonies and the period instrument groups, Musica Angelica and Bach Collegium San Diego. Her 2005 solo CD Beck and Call was released on Crystal Records. A champion of new music, she has commissioned and performed new solo works for bassoon in New York City, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Austin, San Diego, Baton Rouge, New Haven, and Banff, Canada. She is currently the adjunct bassoon professor at the University of Redlands and Pomona College, and teaches students at the Idyllwild Arts Academy and Los Angeles High School for the Arts. She received the degrees of Doctor of Musical Arts from the Manhattan School of Music, Master of Music from the Yale School of Music, and Bachelor of Arts in Bassoon Performance from California State University, Northridge.

Directions: The Beach House is located at 415 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica, CA 90402 on the west side of Pacific Coast Highway, a half mile north of the California Incline and a half mile south of Chautauqua Blvd. Plenty of public parking is available - enter off PCH at the Beach House Way traffic light. Parking: $8 for a
day pass ($10/day on
weekends). The facility is also easily accessible by foot or bike from the beach bike path, although the beach closes at sunset. There is ample bike parking at racks throughout the site - remember to bring your own lock.

Please note that there is bike parking available onsite - bring a lock. Car parking is available and rates vary from weekdays to weekends and season to season.
Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the event; reservations are released then and late seating is not guaranteed. If an event is at capacity, we will generally open a waitlist online and you can sign up. We will not contact you; just plan to arrive by 15 minutes prior to the event and we will assess unclaimed reservations.
